"Important Mahogany Castle Fireplace – 2nd Part 19th Century"
Solid mahogany fireplace, from a castle in the Nantes region, has a fireplace mantel made of moldings. This ends towards the interior with an surround patterned with acanthus leaves at the corners and gadroons. The perimeter of the small tablet, above, is bec-de-corbin and grooved. Recessed we find a dark miter-cut frame of a stucco panel depicting an ancient fresco. This notably features Bacchus the god of wine and Ploutos the god of abundance. This piece of furniture has two large columns with stopped grooves, slightly larger towards the bottom, ending in two gradient moldings on a square base with plinth. The top of its columns is topped with a capital with volutes. The upper element of this fireplace includes a set of eight sculpted compositions, four shells and a pearl, separated by fluted wood elements. Each side has identical decorations. The important cornice which tops the whole is notched and molded in gradient. This rare mahogany fireplace will elegantly adorn your fireplaces whether they are made of bricks or flames. ******** Period: 2nd part of the 19th Century Excellent condition. Waxed finish only. The panel and the upper element resting on the columns are removable.
