All the charm of the old fishermen's houses on the banks of the Etang de Berre at the end of the 19th century, the southern light and colors perfectly mastered by this artist born in Lyon but from Provence by adoption, Charles Malfroy. The work in excellent condition is made from a first draft on a wooden panel whose reserves can be seen in the sky, it is offered in a period gilded frame (which will be restored if necessary), which measures 44, 5 cm by 33 cm and 33 cm by 24 for the panel alone. It represents a fishing village on the banks of the Etang de Berre. The work, signed lower right, is dated '18)94 lower left. Born in Lyon on May 27, 1862 and died in Kremlin-Bicêtre on July 21, 1939. Charles Malfroy is in the post-impressionist lineage of Jean-Baptiste Olive. Attracted by the light of the Mediterranean ports, he excels in views of the Côte d'Azur and the Bouches-du-Rhône, in particular the port of Martigues and the various ports around the Etang de Berre, Istres, Port de Bouc etc. He also painted some paintings of Venice.
