"St-etienne - Giffard Gas Rifle - 1892-19th Century"
Manufacture of arms and cycles of ST-ETIENNE, liquefied gas rifle, patent and invention of Mr Paul GIFFARD, model 1892, listed in the ST-ETIENNE catalog for several years until 14/18. 19th century. Caliber 4.5 mm, propulsion by liquefied gas contained in a metal cartridge, capacity of 800 shots. (same principle as the Giffard liquefied gas pistol, also sold at ST-ETIENNE). Interchangeable steel gas tube, closed at one end by a screwed cap with an opening on which a shutter valve is placed. Valve in contact with the firing pin Round barrel with federal type firing sight and dovetail sight point. Punches on the left side of the barrel, St-Etienne steel. Breech block frame in steel and engraved with a decoration of acanthus scrolls and marking on the right side of the barrel. Cocking lever on the right allowing loading from above. Mechanism in perfect working order. 2 strap attachment bails present. Walnut stock with checkered part and ebonite butt plate bearing the Montgolfière marking and hallmarks, a registered trademark of the "GIFFARD" family.
