"Bronze Representing A Shepherdess And Her Dog, Signed Abbal."
Very beautiful bronze sculpture representing a shepherdess and her dog, signed on the Abbal terrace. André Abbal 1876-1953, sculptor of figures, busts, animals, was a student of Falguières and Mercié at the School of Fine Arts in Paris. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1896. In 1933, he also exhibited at the Salon des Tuileries, that same year he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor. An exhibition of his work took place at the Galliera Museum in 1956. What characterizes his work is the direct carving which gives his sculpture a rather rough style. He obtained numerous orders for public monuments, notably in Toulouse, Moissac and in Paris at the Palais de Chaillot (exterior). W/D/H: 18 x 11 x 37 cm. Terrace 20.5 x 15.5 cm. Weight: 6.8 kg.
