Object description :

"Guy Séradour (1922-2007) Provençal Mas In Winter"
Delicacy, finesse, softness and serene atmosphere, the poetic and timeless universe of the painter Guy Seradour. The work, in excellent condition, is presented in a pretty gold frame with black edging which measures 65 cm by 80 cm, and 50 cm by 65 cm for the canvas alone. It represents a Provençal farmhouse certainly in winter given the skinny fruit trees that accompany it. A quality work, of great sensitivity, signed lower left. Guy Jean Louis Seradour was born on October 8, 1922 in Étaples in the Pas-de-Calais department. He studied at the Condorcet high school then entered the Beaux-Arts in 1939, where he only stayed for one term, preferring to work alone. In 1940, La Galerie Romanet, in Algiers, organized his first exhibition. In 1955, Parisian critics discovered him during his exhibition at Bernheim-Jeune. It is with his austere landscapes, his somewhat miserable characters and his portraits of all of Paris that what will make him famous begins. In 1958, he became involved with Jean Minet (Galerie d'Art de la Place Beauvau) and this meeting would be decisive for him. Its participation in all the major exhibitions has earned it the opportunity to be present at the most important international events of French art. In 1965, the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris made a first acquisition: Le Lampiste. In 1973, a retrospective was organized by the Cassis Museum, “20 years of painting”, celebrating Provence which was a source of inspiration for him. In 1977, he received the international Gemmail prize in Lourdes, which recognized him as a painter of Light. He gives his characters, his still lifes, as well as his landscapes, an appearance of tranquility, serenity, mystery. He lives and works in Paris, Cannes and Deauville. He is a member of the artistic council of the Prince Pierre of Monaco Foundation. It is exhibited in the following museums: Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris, Museum of the Petit Palais in Geneva; Gemmail Museum in Lourdes; Marseille Museum; Oran Museum; National Library ; Boudin Museum in Honfleur. Distinctions He was named Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honor, Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters and Commander of the Order of Saint-Charles and the Order of Cultural Merit. In 1980, the town of Vars paid tribute to him, during his lifetime, by giving his name to a route, the Guy Seradour course.
