Superb Islamic embossed and chiseled brass "Tas" or basin from FARS area in Iran.
The body of the basin is widely and richly decorated with fine and elegant friezes of stylized curves inscriptions, framing several circular reserves of geometric decorations and interlacing.
Perfect condition. Note some very slight dents and a tiny light, linked to a micro-drilling on the body of the basin (wear)
The dovetail assembly structure is very slightly perceptible on the periphery of the basin, showing its manufacture by the assembly of 2 embossed and chiseled brass plates. This junction is nevertheless invisible on most of the circumference.
Very nice general patina
Dimensions 25.5cm diameter and 13cm height
Fars or Pars is one of the thirty-one provinces of Iran, in the southwest of the country, whose capital is Shiraz. Fārs is ancient Persid, cradle of the Achaemenid and Sassanid dynasties, whose dialect (Fārsī) was first the literary language, then the lingua franca of vast Muslim regions before becoming the official language of Iran.
"Daily items objects par excellence, these bassins are emblematic of Islamic world. Symbolically linked to the ablutions before the prayer and recalling the importance of water in Islamic culture."
