Object description :

"Oil On Canvas 18th Century Portrait Of Lady - Circle Of Thomas Beach (1739-1806)"
A sensitive and subtly colored 18th century English portrait of a wife (Hannah Hass) of rector George Henry Hass. The attractive young guardian is depicted half-length in a carved cartouche with her body tilted to the left, her eyes turned away from the viewer, she appears lost in thought. Hannah wears the sumptuous mousse, ruffles and pale shades that show the influence of the rococo style. She wears a pale silver silk dress with a loose pleated back of the French "Saque-back" style. Also called the “Watteau Pleat” – after the work of the famous Rococo master – the wide fold of fabric falling freely from its shoulders is barely glimpsed. The lace just seen cascading from her cuff is called "engaged" and her gathered sleeves held in place by pearl drops. Her raven hair is curled and worn elegantly upwards and she is jewelry-free except for a simple black ribbon worn at her elegant neck. This beautiful painting is offered ready to hang and enjoy in a premium antique style frame. Thomas Beach Beach was born in Milton Abbas, Dorchester in 1738. During the years 1760-1762 he was a pupil of Joshua Reynolds. He was a member of the Society of Artists and later settled in the seaside resort of Bath where he was in great demand for his portraits. He held exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts in the 1780s and 90s. He painted famous people such as the actors Sarah Siddons and John Kemble. His portraits are in museum collection boxes around the world, including the National Portrait Gallery in London. High resolution images on request. Worldwide shipping available.
