Born in Vienna, Austria, on August 7, 1873, into a lower-middle-class family, Franz Peleschka entered the Vienna School of Fine Arts and the workshop of the Austrian sculptor Edmund von Hellmer (1850-1935). In an Art Deco style, he sculpts delicate figurines in alabaster, ivory or bronze representing naked dancers or young ladies dressed in the fashion of the 1st Empire.
He also produced a series of young Dutch girls in different situations, as touching as they are mischievous. Shod in sturdy wooden clogs, dressed in a skirt full of petticoats protected by an apron, and a little woolen camisole, the little Dutch girl, with a slight smile on her lips, holds her two beloved dolls in each of her hands. A small childish scene full of charm and sweetness, this statuette evokes the sweetness of childhood.
