Superb Openwork And Carved Canton Fan. Early 19th Century, China. Asia. Fan flag

Object description :

"Superb Openwork And Carved Canton Fan. Early 19th Century, China. Asia. Fan"
Very beautiful openwork and engraved fan.

It is a broken fan, the 28 strands being independent of each other and connected by a beige silk ribbon.
The work is typical of the city of Canton, China, during the first half of the 19th century.

The finely spotted decoration is real lace from which circular cartouches, rosettes and, in the center, a magnificent Swiss shield with the number J of its sponsor stand out.

The plumes are deeply and very finely sculpted with a decoration of houses and temples in a lush environment.

Superb engraving work on a fan, typical Canton work intended for export to the European market. The finesse of the openwork is remarkable.
