"Neoclassical Allegorical Scene"
Drawing on paper with traces of graphite preparation and definition in Indian ink, dating between the 18th and 19th centuries. On the ground the symbols usually referred to Hermes such as the globe and the caduceus with intertwined serpents, an element with multiple meanings from peace to wisdom and transversal to Greek and Roman culture. Symbologies ranging from the theatrical arts to figures such as Cupid unusually pointing his arrow towards the sky appear on the same plane. The seated figure seems to stand as an allegory of abbonadanza but in the whole context questions remain as to the theme of this drawing of fine quality, preserved in good overall condition with a carryover in the upper left margin. Which does not include figures.
