"Henri Royer. Nude Study."
Nude study, by Henri Royer 1869/1938. Oil on mahogany panel. Unsigned Provenance: artist's studio funds. On this little nude we find Royer's touch as well as an attempt at cropping. This is probably a study for a larger scene. Henri Royer, born in Nancy, close to Emile Friant, took the courses of Devilly and Vierling before leaving for Paris. At the Julian Academy, he studied with Jules Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger. He debuted at the Salon in 1890, then received the Lehmann prize. Silver medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900. In 1901 he took charge of the women's workshop at the Julian Academy. In 1906, he participated in the decoration of the Villa Majorelle alongside Alexandre Bigot. from the late 19th century, he traveled to Brittany and the Basque country. From his Breton stays, we know numerous portraits and landscapes. Dimensions of our panel 33x41.5 cm
