Object description :

"Saint Peter And His Keys - Procession Banner - 17th Century"
Here is an important embroidery intended for a banner. It is a fine linen canvas embroidered in polychrome silk with split stitch and oriental stitch and metallic thread in couching. Later mounted on a yellow brocatelle from the Louis XIV period.
Our Saint Peter appears there with his traditional attributes, namely the Book but above all the keys to the Terrestrial world and the Celestial world (here disproportionate) which open, for the second, nothing less... the doors of Paradise.
The delicacy of the face of our Holy man contrasts with the naivety of the whole.
