Léonce Pelletier took classes at the School of Fine Arts in Dijon with studio companions such as Lippe, Bonotte and Bouchardd. His notoriety allowed him to go to Paris and enter the studio of Gustave Moreau with Edgar Maxence and Henri Matisse as classmates. He then returned to his native region, where he taught at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Dijon.

Pelletier's work is part of the continuity of symbolism, where tradition and mysticism mix.
