"The Temple Of Hymenee Or The Goddess Of Discord Engraved By Félix Bracquemond Dedicated"
Exceptional proof engraved by Félix Bracquemond, after Gustave Moreau, for Messrs Boussod and Valadon. This engraving brings together a concentrate of Parisian cultural life at the end of the 19th century. Felix Bracquemond no longer needs to be introduced, engraver, painter, creator of ceramics, he rubbed shoulders with the greatest artists of his time, both literati and exceptional painters, as well as actors, he engraves their portraits (the most famous is that of 'Edmond de Goncourt). This engraving is made after a work by Gustave Moreau, an extraordinary painter who left us, with his house, his work and his collections, such an original museum, and who makes us experience the sensation of rediscovering the artistic life of the 19th century . Finally, the dedicates of the engraving are quite simply the owners and successors of Maison Goupil, an international art publisher at the end of the 19th century. Mr Boussod is nothing less than the brother-in-law of Léon Gerome who married Mademoiselle Goupil. The engraving bears several important mentions: The grave dedication (which is not present on any other engraving of the same subject): "In progress for the proprietors mr mr Boussod & Valadon _ Paris". An autograph in the hand of Félix Bracquemond: "engraved by Bracquemond" An old mention in pencil "the temple of the hymenee, 6th state and definitive" and illegible. The engraving is in an oak frame 52.5 cm x 62.5 cm.
