Louis Cabié, renowned artist in France and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, circulated in the great southwest throughout its life. A student of Harpignies whose passion for vegetation is found in the manner of the Barbizon school, he transcribed until his death the simplicity of picturesque French landscapes. Spectacular trees, forest atmospheres, places steeped in history, captivating valleys, or even a landscape in its simplest form that will bring out a vital contrast.

From 1890, Louis-Alexandre Cabié traveled the banks of the Vézère in all weathers and different seasons. It was in the town of Eyzies in Dordogne that he spent a large part of his time, and where he married his second wife in 1894. Several hundred works were created on the banks of this river, which are for the majority not located today.

Our very warm little panel is the perfect illustration of the Eyzies landscape. The holm oak and the rock are golden by the spring sun. This tree must be located above the Vézère downstream from the town.
