Rare and beautiful carved marble dog. He stands with his front paws on a cushion that appears padded and round in shape. Long-haired coat, beautiful feather-like tail hanging down on one side. It rests on a rectangular base with cut sides. This dog was a favorite at the French court in the first half of the 18th century. Having been outside, there is some wear to the marble.
