"Small Showcase In Brass And Blackened Pear Wood, Napoleon III Period – Mid-19th Century"
This small piece of furniture, in blackened pear wood, opens with a glass door, with a brass frame, inlaid with red, green, blue, white and orange patterns specific to the style of André-Charles Boulle (1646-1732). Cabinetmaker to Louis XIV, Boulle was the first to apply gilded bronze and tortoiseshell to cabinetmaking. This door is equipped with an authentic functional lock with bronze entrance decorated with an acanthus crown and key. The mahogany interior is structured with two adjustable shelves on racks with fields inlaid with brass threads. This display case, at support height, topped with black Mazy marble, is enriched with numerous bronzes, notably scraps with cherub motifs on the uprights. On each side, the corners are fitted with spandrels and the center features a chimera's head. The upper part is decorated with two friezes of acanthus leaves and gilded bronze ovates. This exceptional piece of furniture rests on a projecting base, with a gadrooned bronze top, highlighted with a double brass fillet. This base is decorated with scrolled flower and leaf motifs as well as a Louis XIV mask. This small display case, having benefited from a careful restoration according to the rules of the art, will appeal to lovers of chic and refined furniture.
