Work signed Desbois for Jules Desbois (1851-1935) and factory stamp (most certainly Limoges). Good condition, no breakage. Early 20th century period. Jules Desbois, friend and collaborator of Auguste Rodin Born in 1851, Jules Desbois is the only son of the village innkeepers. His gift for drawing led him to apprentice in different workshops and to take courses at the School of Fine Arts in Angers and then in Paris. A man of his time, Jules Desbois was fully involved in the artistic research and movements of his time and excelled in both the decorative arts and monumental sculpture. He focuses his work around 3 recurring themes: movement, the female body and realism. A known and recognized artist from the 1890s, he received numerous commissions from the State which also bought several works from him including Leda and the Swan, The Rock of Sisyphus, Misery... Jules Desbois is also known for his friendship and his collaboration with Auguste Rodin whom he met on the construction site
