"Louis XVI Marquetry Commode"
Superb chest of drawers from the beginning of the Louis XVI period, circa 1780 in rosewood veneer in amaranth frames. It opens on the front with 2 belt drawers and 2 large drawers with crosspieces below and rests on sheathed feet decorated with bronze shoes. Our chest of drawers has a very rich marquetry decoration of various wood species on the front as well as on the sides. We have not identified a stamp, but the finesse of the execution of the marquetry fillets, the variety of patterns and the subtlety of the fern curling decoration on the sides are the mark of a great 18th century cabinetmaker. It is topped with its period marble which has undergone an old restoration (practically invisible), it has been repolished. Built in softwood, all the frames in oak. Very good state of conservation.
