A color litograph depicting a race at night between two steamboats :the Natchez & the Eclipse wich took place in the 1850's.Quite good condition:lithograph glued on card board,moisture stains ,scratches(see pictures)

Frances Flora Bond Palmer(1812-1876)known as Fanny Palmer was an english artist who became successful in the United States as a litographer for Currier & Ives.
On july 1832 Frances Flora Bond married Edmund Seymour Palmer ,they had a daughter and a son.After experiencing financial difficulties .the Palmers operated a lithography business with Frances as artist and Edmund as printer.their prints were well received ,but despite the higher praise,the Palmers business was in difficulties,they decided to leave England in 1843 and to emigrate to New York USA .They made several jobs and set themselves in printing business ,but they failed for a second time.Nathaniel Currier took over their stock ,and recognizing Frances talent, hired her to work for his firm .During Frances association with the printing companies of Currier & Ives between1849 and 1868 ,she produced about 200 litographs specialized in landscapes genre.After having decided to leave Currier & Ives in 1868,she continued to be listed in directories as lithographer and artist,although ,she printed very little works until her death in 1876.
