"Emile Gallé In Nancy Pair Of Important Candelabra With Lions"
Emile GALLÉ (1846-1904) spectacular pair of candelabra with heraldic lions, work from the Nancy school from the late 19th century around 1890 presenting a structure in polychrome blue, red and gold under-enamel earthenware in the Japanese style. The two roaring lions are erected in torchieres supporting a crenellated turret representing coats of arms of Nancy and Bar-le-Duc recalling the title of Stanislas (Duke of Lorraine and Bar), they are animated on the facade by a fleur-de-lis standard then surmounted by four neo-Gothic style sconces in finely chiseled gilded and patinated bronze. Both pieces are signed Gallé in Nancy and bear the monogram EG with the cross of Lorraine. They are offered in very satisfactory and original condition, note rare enamel breaks located at the edge of the plinth. Dimensions: 60 cm high X 35 cm wide.
