"Pair Of Landiers Andirons In The Taste Of The Renaissance."
An important pair of chiseled and patinated bronze andirons depicting winged putti overlooking an alternation of superimposed flower vases. The lower part of the landiers is decorated with intertwined dragons, masks and fantastic characters. Work in the style of the Renaissance. A landier is a large andiron in use since the Middle Ages. The top of this kitchen utensil carried a container to receive flaming coals which land, hence the name landier. These large iron andirons used in monumental fireplaces were of various kinds: bucket-mounted landers for heating dishes, hook-mounted landers. The laundry tub was also placed there. From the 18th century the landier became a decorative andiron which can be found today in decorative fireplaces, like our landiers presented.
