"Small Between-tombs Chest Of Drawers In Violet Wood And Rosewood, Louis XIV Style –"
Small tomb chest of drawers, 19th century Parisian work, topped with red Pyrenees marble molded in bec-de-corbin. This Louis XIV style chest of drawers opens with four identical pot-bellied drawers, the fronts of which are in rosewood and violet wood marquetry. In the center we will notice an oval part made of violet wood, the interior of which is composed of rosewood and violet arranged like butterfly wings. Each of these drawers is equipped with two folding handles, in bronze, mounted on axes with rosettes, a functional original lock with chiseled entry and a rear key. The intermediate crosspieces, like the top and bottom of this piece of furniture, are decorated with grooves inlaid with brass. The low crosspiece, generously animated, also presents a cul-de-lamp decorated with scrolls and shells. The quarter-round front legs are made of rosewood and roughened. They end with openwork bronze clogs. The sides, slightly moved, are made of rosewood arranged in quatrefoils. There is an inlaid oval element. Note that the bottoms and sides of the drawers, as well as the back of this piece of furniture, are made of oak. We will remember the very interesting dimensions of this chest of drawers as well as the quality of its ornaments and its marquetry. ******** Period: 2nd half of the 19th Century Excellent condition.
