(Jean) Louis Lachaume de Gaveaux, known as Cheret, was born on June 18, 1820 in New Orleans (United States). He is the son of a music composer who performed several comic operas and published albums at Le Ménestrel. He became a painter and created numerous decorations. The last decorations to come out of his workshops at 93, rue du Chemin-Vert, are those of the first three paintings of Quatre-vingt-treize, of which he made the models, on his bed of pain. He died after four days of a very painful agony, due to intestinal cancer from which he has suffered for a long time. He died in Paris (11th), on January 7, 1882.
