This sculpture of a Saint is a French work from the end of the 16th century.
It could be Saint Madeleine given her long hair, her fine face, her clothes and jewelry.
With her hands missing, she could have held in one of them, the perfume bottle that characterizes her. Richly dressed, her clothes have long, well-defined folds and her dress with a square neckline highlights the preciousness of her necklace.
Her long, wavy hair falls on either side of her shoulders and testifies to her always-described beauty.
The rear is partially hollowed out and there is still an old hook.
Good condition with missing hands, posterior polychromy.
Dimensions H 63 cm / L 21 cm / W13 cm
Comes from a large private collection.
