"A Large (96 Cm) Rare Sensual Sculpture The Mermaid Or Allegory Of Love - Denys Puech"
A large bronze statue named "The Mermaid" by Denys Puech (1854-1942). This statue is the largest size of this representation in bronze and in very good condition. The statue was made around 1890 from an original marble representing the kidnapping of a young man by a mermaid or “Allegory of Love”. This statue was made by Denys Puech during his time in Rome at the Villa Medici between 1887 and 1889. It bears the Collas mechanical reduction stamp and the mark of the bronze maker Barbedienne Paris. The original marble of this statue is visible at the Musée d'Orsay, and a second version is also visible at the Denys Puech museum in Rodez. This talented artist exhibited at the Salon of 1875. He was an important artist from the end of the 19th century until the first quarter of the 20th century. He received the Grand Prize at the Universal Exhibition and his works can be found on the most beautiful Parisian buildings.
