"Pencil Drawing By Camille Bellanger: Portrait Of The Monk Guyot"
This drawing is probably a commission, a native of Provins, his father Justin Bellanger was a librarian, poet and novelist. The drawing is signed lower left and dated 1908. The monk Guyot or Guiot de Provins (1150- after 1208) was a French trouvère and poet. Of the songs composed by Guyot only 6 have reached us. A great traveler, he knew Jerusalem and Constantinople, crossed during the 3rd and perhaps 4th crusade, he retired to Cluny and composed 2 satirical poems touching on morality, including the famous Guiot Bible (the word bible at that time meant didactic poem ). Reproductions of this drawing have been published.
