Geniune gallo-roman period (1st century AC)
Gallo-Roman stone carved base of column, 1st century AD, from Argentomagus archeologic site (Indre, center of France),
Found and reported by local customer passionate about archaeology Joseph Pierre in 1909, on the Site of St Marcel, in Chambon, lower part of the famous archaeological site of Argentomagus (ancient Roman municipality of Argentomagus, built in 1st century AD)
This fantastic discovery was then documented on local newspaper from this of which an article shows the B&W photo at its excavation site (please check photos)
Preserved subsequently during more than one century in Charon Castle in POMMIERS (Indre) until 2017 (we can see on an old photo in this place that the column base was full, certainly broken recently), then sold in auctions (please check photos for 2 stone carved gallo-roman deithy bust pre-empted and purchased by the Argentomagus museum)
History of discovery, ownership and location on the Argentomagus site, even monitored by the Curator of the Argentomagus Museum, Philippe RIFFAUD LONGUESPE.

Good condition (due its age): the base is in 2 parts joining perfectly. The column is obviously incomplete, it was originally supposed to be several meters high.
Dimensions 65 diameter * 65cm height approx

Superb element of classic architectural decoration for a park or interior. Very impressive !
