"Blanche Odin : “bouquet Of Red Roses In A Brass Vase”"
Blanche Odin (1865-1957): “Bouquet of red roses in a brass vase”, watercolor 42 original green and gold reverse slope 52 X 43 cm. If Redouté was the greatest flower watercolorist of the first half of the 19th century, Blanche Odin is the greatest of the first half of the 20th century. If, of course, it is her roses which have ensured, in a very well-deserved way, her reputation, she excelled in the representations of all kinds of flowers as we can see in the excellent works of Monique Pujo-Monfran or by visiting the Salies de Bagnères de Bigorre museum. Always with this timeless grace so characteristic of her work, our watercolor signed by Blanche Odin represents a bouquet of blooming red roses, of a deep, dark red, purplish for some and yet bright which contrasts with the brass container serving as vase. A slightly weary petal has fallen, all delicate. Made in the years 1920 – 1925, it can be dated from those years due to the bayadère background probably a curtain or wallpaper very fashionable at that time while later the artist made the choice neutral backgrounds without any particular decoration.
