At the age of eleven he was orphaned and together with his brother Vittorio continued his father's business as a marble worker.
He studied at the Carrara Academy in Bergamo as a pupil of Ponziano Loverini (whose daughter Antonietta he married in 1922), receiving several prizes and honorable mentions. In 1906 he won a scholarship which gave him the opportunity to attend the Scuola Libera di Nudo in Rome as a student of Ettore Ferrari. In 1908 he returned to Bergamo and began to exhibit regularly at the Carrara and Circolo Artistico exhibitions. He carries out various works for monuments and churches in Bergamo. In 1920 he participated in the Sacred Art exhibition in Venice and in 1922 at the IV Triennale. Meanwhile he exhibits in various galleries in Bergamo and Milan such as: the Micheli Gallery in Milan, the Permanente Gallery in Bergamo, the Ranzini Gallery in Milan. In 1948 he participated in the first National Exhibition of Sacred Art in Bergamo.
He remained faithful to his teachings throughout his life, ignoring new trends. In his study, where the motto “ars longa vita brevis” was read, as his biographer recalls “he was observed with his hands in continuous movement while he fidgeted in front of the clay or the canvas, with that pointed beard and with those eyes as restless as his temperament, eyes that sparkled as they expressed the torment and anxiety of translating the inspiration that was fermenting in his brain into living reality”. He was inspired above all by the poetry of motherhood, with evocative "sanguine" and black-white images. Among them, the latest production cycles are mentioned: The mother; The poetry of the cradle; The first habits; scenes mostly shrouded in silent and mystical shadows.
