"Large Table With Folding Shutters Late 16th Century"
Rare large table with folding shutters, walnut wood, France (Val de Loire), second half of the 16th century. The thick top is mounted on 4 legs in the shape of turned balusters, resting on square masses joined by an X-shaped spacer, in a heavily molded cornice. The flaps are held open by wooden slides, operated by large wooden buttons which lock the shutters in the closed position. The whole thing is completely removable. Beautiful state of conservation, its design is a fine example of the spirit of the Renaissance; The thickness of the top is 4 cm.
