"Japan, Meiji Era, Large Bronze Paper Opener With Cranes And Lotus Flowers"
Large Japanese paper couple in bronze and brass. the handle is in bronze decorated with cranes symbolizing longevity and prosperity in the middle of lotus flowers all in strong relief.
the patinas are contrasting and offer particularly interesting color effects: red, gold and silver.
the large blade is made of brass and shaped like a scimitar, it is engraved with a monkey on a persimmon tree.
the details of the bronze cranes are extremely fine.
a paper opener dating from the Meiji era at the end of the 19th century in its garnet case.
a beautiful collector's item probably designed for the foreign market.
the contrast between the handle and the blade is most graceful.

a collectible Japanese paper cutter, useful on many occasions.
