"Alphonse Monchablon: Portrait Of Captain Comte Mm, Drawing"
In the 1880s, publishing the illustrated catalog of the SAF required artists to send a drawing of the painting they wanted to exhibit, so that an engraver could record this drawing in the catalog. The drawing presented is autograph executed by the painter from his painting. Alphonse Monchablon, student of Cornu and Gleyre, began at the SAF in 1866, was first prize of Rome in 1863, is a history painter, portrait and decorator. The drawing is signed lower right.
