Persian Isfahan or Isfahan rug in wool and silk with floral patterns measuring 145 cm wide by 202 cm long.
Magnificent decor for this type of Persian considered to be the finest carpets found in Iran.
Museum quality carpets from the late second part of the 19th century, or even the very beginning of the 20th century before the First World War.
The decoration of this room uses traditional floral motifs which appear in 17th century carpets and in mosques, on old ceramics.
Note the presence of "Tchi", or "ribbon cloud", an ancient auspicious symbol, inspired by Chinese art, and which is often found on very old Isfahan carpets from the 16th and 17th centuries.
We easily recognize in the interlacing roses, daisies, lotus flowers, present on the field and on the borders, abundantly knotted on this piece.
The border and its counter-borders are very sophisticated, as the arrangement of the interlacings and flowers is of great finesse as are the associated shades of blue and red.
The design of the central polylobed medallion specific to these rugs with elegant extensions in pendants, and the patterns of the spandrels testify to great research.
The colors are pleasant and remain fresh, Prussian blue, ocher, clay red, olive green, pale blue and ivory are shades that we encounter in the repertoire of these carpets and this period.
It is very difficult for us to imagine the infinite patience that was and is required to create such a beautiful piece.
Density of around 640,000 knots per M2 for a thickness of just under 4 millimeters.
The selvedges are in good condition, the fringes very short and the velvet superb.
This type of carpet proves to us the precise and acute artistic sense of the artisans of Isfahan.
The quality of the wools used is a major asset, as well as the use of silk, which provides a beautiful shine.
The use and solidity of plant colors have enabled the conservation of this type of carpet.
The remarkable fineness of the velvet due to a low shave and a very fine cotton warp and weft allows a fineness of carpet combining great robustness. Isfahan is still the great city of art in Iran today.
