"Pair Of Candy Dishes , Sterling Silver, Hanau, Regency Style Late Nineteenth Century"
Very elegant pair of regency style quadripod présentation dishes in solid silver. They bear so-called "hallmarks of convenience" as often on eclectic pieces from the second half of the nineteenth century. These are hallmarks which imitate the hallmarks of the eighteenth century without wanting to create the impression that they are period pieces. This was a common practice in silversmith workshops in the Netherlands and Germany that specialized in historical replicas. The engraved and embossed decorations of these pretty bowls are inspired by the decorations of the French Regency period. They weigh 635 grams.
