"Charles X Period Bedside Table"
Bedside table from the Charles fillet and sticks of dark wood. Resulting from careful cabinetmaking work, the cabinetmaker who made this bedside table used a maple burl veneer to cover and thus decorate all the faces of his furniture, the architecture of the furniture is highlighted by solid amaranth sticks contrasting with the light color of the maple they mark the 3 parts constituting the piece of furniture: the plinth forming the base, the body forming the column and the cornice forming the capital. The piece of furniture opens on the front with a door and a drawer, the door is veneered with two leaves of maple burl connected “to an open book” inlaid with an amaranth veneer net, the leaf is framed with a molding composed of a half round and a light ogee, both highlighted with amaranth. The piece of furniture is topped with its original marble (formerly fractured and glued back together) it is a turquin blue with a bowl, we find the same marble for the shelf inside the piece of furniture. As an extension of the care taken in manufacturing the furniture, we have a drawer whose interior is veneered with mahogany and the floor of the furniture is veneered with maple burl. The drawer pull button and the olive door handle are original, both elements are in bronze with a medal patina, decorated with leafy stems and flower buds. This bedside table is quality Parisian work, it furnished one of the bedrooms at the Château de Flogny la Chapelle. This castle located in Burgundy in the Yonne department was built during the reign of Charles X in 1828 by the Marquis of Anjorrant.
