Henri Royer, born in Nancy, close to Emile Friant, took lessons from Devilly and Vierling before leaving for Paris. At the Julian Academy, he studied with Jules Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger. He debuted at the Salon in 1890, then received the Lehmann prize. Silver medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900. In 1901 he took charge of the women's workshop at the Julian Academy. In 1906, he participated in the decoration of the Villa Majorelle alongside Alexandre Bigot. from the end of the 19th century, he traveled to Brittany and the Basque country. From his Breton and Basque stays, we know many portraits and landscapes.
