"Vishnu Head, Khmer, 11th Century"
Head of Vishnu, Cambodia, Khmer, in sandstone belonging to the Baphon period, at the end of the 11th century, characterized by the conical shape of the headdress, an elaborate diadem of decoration at its base. The facial expression is soft and welcoming with a hint of a smile. The eyebrows have a subtle arch, the nose and mouth are full and well sculpted. The well-polished face and especially the broad forehead contrast with the decorated tiara. Height: 15 cm (22 cm with the base), 11th century. Certificate of expertise from its purchase in 1986 at the Lee & Sons gallery on rue de Lille in Paris. ( view the photo )
