"Arma Christi - Devotional Work - Late 18th Century"
A beautiful work of devotion, this set in ivory from the end of the 18th century, beginning of the 19th century, on a woven red background, as it should be to symbolize the Savior. Finely sculpted, to the classic instruments of the Passion, elements are added that traditional iconography only takes up more occasionally, namely: The thirty pieces of silver paid to Judas for his betrayal, The lantern of the guards who came to arrest him, The seamless tunic, the soldiers' dice, drawing lots for the garments of Christ, The rooster of Saint Peter Thus and above all, sun and moon which, according to the will of the Most High, preside over day and night. Their particular position on either side of Christ shows us the celestial aspect of this very sadly human scene... When man becomes God.
Good condition, elegant gilded wood frame.
Dimensions of 32 cm by 27 and 4 cm deep.
On the back, interesting mark of ownership of a thread which indicates that we got this painting from his late mother (1741-1825).
