Object description :

"Young Nonchalant Girl - Hiroyuki Watanabe Japan Circa 1930-40"
An indifferent and nonchalant young girl.
Bronze with antique dark green patina. Gray marble (a chip on the back (see photo). Small wear, micro shocks.
Hiroyuki Watanabe was a graduate of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts. Studied with Fumio Asakura, who provided French-style teaching, influenced by Rodin. His training is characteristic of the pre-war period: a strong influence of European and Greco-Roman sculpture. He published numerous nudes and subjects, always in a very peaceful and sensual register. From 1930 he had a workshop near Nagasaki. His young daughters often have an indolent, even sulky air. He has created some outdoor sculptures (Shinjuku Tokyo district).
