Object description :

"Portrait Of A Young Man In Black, Belgium 17th Century."
“Portrait of a young man in black”. Attributed to Victor Boucquet born in Furnes in 1619 and died in the same city on February 11, 1677. Flemish school. Private collection, old provenance: Mr Dony van Landschoten from S'Hertogenbosch. In perfect condition. Dimensions: h.55 cm x l.44 cm. The painting that we are presenting is that of a very beautiful portrait of a young man, painted in bust in a delicate cold and luminous color that is almost transparent. A strongly Spanish style stands out from this work. The painting almost in a monochrome palette, without opposition of complementary elements, denotes great mastery. The delicacy of the features, the liveliness of the hair, the luminous eyes give this portrait an indefinable, very captivating charm. We can compare without error, its execution, its design and its modeling to those of the painting "Le porte Drapeau" by Victor Boucquet which is in the Louvre. The period is Louis XIII and its Flemish design is strongly tempered by its Spanish execution. Victor Boucquet was born in 1619 in the town of Furnes, Belgium, son of the painter Marc Boucquet, he worked extensively for the surrounding towns. He painted History in a big and very good way. His compositions mark a man of genius: they are abundant. He arranged the groups perfectly. Its funds are almost always enriched with Architecture. He died in the same city on February 11, 1677, aged 58. Almost all of this artist's works were destroyed during the bombing of Furnes during the 1914-1918 war.
