Object description :

"Sèvres 19th Century Biscuit Group After Louis-félix Delarue"
Sèvres porcelain biscuit sculpture from the late 19th century, signed with the stamp of the Sèvres factory, monogrammed LV and encrypted. Charming allegorical composition after the sculptor Louis Felix Delarue (1730-1777) depicting a group of children from the procession of Bacchus playing blowing into a conch, note that the original plaster is currently at the MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS in BOSTON. Good condition, dimensions: 20 cm high x 16 cm wide. Louis Felix DELARUE (1730-1777) trained in the workshop of the sculptor Lambert-Sigisbert Adam (1700-1759). He won the Prix de Rome in 1750 with a bas-relief entitled "Abraham giving thanks to God for the deliverance of his son" (location unknown) and became a resident of the Royal School of Protected Students between 1752 and 1754. As such , Delarue presented to the king, during an exhibition in Versailles in 1754, a group entitled Bacchante qui intoxicant des enfants and four bas-reliefs of the Seasons represented by children. Before leaving for Rome in November 1754, he worked under the direction of Jean-Jacques Bachelier at the Manufacture de Sèvres, where he created several groups of children based on drawings by François Boucher. Returning to the Académie de France in Rome, of which Natoire was then director, he was admitted to the Académie de Saint-Luc on September 13, 1760. Subsequently, Delarue was appointed professor and exhibited, in 1762, A marble , terracottas - including a Dieu Fleuve reception piece at Saint-Luc. After 1764, Delarue disappeared from the official archives. We are aware of a small marble group (16.5 cm) representing the same subject as our group 'Three children from the procession of Bacchus playing with a mastiff' kept at the Cognac-Jay museum (inv J 252). The Sèvres Manufacture also preserves a terracotta, a plaster and an old round of molds for the plaster of the small marble group preserved in Cognac-Jay.
