"Fernand Maillaud: "return Of Wish", Tapestry Cartoon For Beauvais, Tempera On Canvas."
Tapestry cardboard commissioned from Fernand Maillaud by the Beauvais factory (Perhaps Retour de voeu published in 1924). A tapestry screen with the same theme was published and is reproduced on page 160 in: "Understanding modern decorative art", Hachete 1925. We find this theme again on the doors of a cabinet sculpted by Fernand Maillaud interpreted as a Country “flight into Egypt” exhibited at the Musée d’Orsay. For Maillaud, tapestry should not be a mutation of painting and his work as a cardboard maker is not governed by the same necessities as his paintings.
