"Alsace 2 Original Posters 1945 Kermesse Le La Maîtrise Pays Des Cigognes"
(Alsace). Pair of original posters: Maîtrise fair, at the Grange des Dîmes. In the Land of the Storks, large market, brasserie, entertainment. Black ink, watercolor, charcoal and white highlights on brown paper. 52 x 37.5 cm each. Two tax stamps. These posters announce a fair in an Alsatian village, in the post-war context. Alsace, which had been annexed by Germany in 1940, became French again at the beginning of 1945. On these posters, we find children in Alsatian outfits, with French iconographic elements (cockade and tricolor flag). In one, the young girl caresses a stork whose tail the boy paints blue. On the other, the two children seated on a beam pet the French flag, while below, a boy mocks a very small German soldier, Nazi flag in hand and spiked helmet falling over his eyes. The dates announced on the posters, Sunday July 1 and 8 and Thursday July 5, correspond to the year 1945, just a few months after the liberation.
