Paul Emile Berton, a French landscape painter, was a pupil of Puvis de Chavanne. He exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1874 to 1906. The forest of Fontainebleau was one of his favourite subjects. The Musée de Tours holds an evening-effect painting by Bertileon entitled "Birches in the Forest of Fontainebleau".
