Fratelli Barovier was founded in 1878 by Giovanni Barovier and his brother Antonio's sons (Giuseppi, Benvenuto and Benedetto).
They had all been working in Murano as glassblowers for Dr Antonio Salviati since 1866.
In 1883, they took over the Salviati glassworks in collaboration with Antonio Camozzo, director of the Salvati glassworks.

From 1927, the company was known as Vetreria Artistica Barovier & Co, with Ercole Barovier as its main designer.
The company was wound up in 1936 and renamed Ferro Toso Barovier Vetrerie Artische Riunite SA.

From 1942 onwards, the company was called Barovier & Toso, with Artemio and Decio Toso as directors and Ercole Barovier as managing director.

During the 1950s, the company worked with renowned contemporary designers such as Anish Kapoor and Tom Dixon.

Since 1990, Jacopo Barovier has been Managing Director and Giovanni Toso has been Production Director.
The company has branches in Milan, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Moscow.
