a superb reliquary in carved walnut containing an ampulla with a piece of the femur of Saint Boniface.
this large reliquary forming a monstrance is very original. it is in carved walnut while most are often in metal, brass, etc.
It is very finely carved in walnut decorated with foliage motifs.
it is in two parts, the top containing a glass bulb in which rests the relic of Saint Boniface martyr, a piece probably of his femur, annotated with a small original paper and surrounded by flowers.
this upper part rests on a large pedestal, finely worked and carved with floral motifs.
the two parts are held together thanks to a large tenon.
everything is very stable and very solid, some holes from worm attacks but the whole has been completely passed through xylophene.
there are no more worms in it.
a little lack of sculpture on the back of the bulb, moreover the back is made of solid wood.
a very beautiful and rare reliquary dating from the first half of the 18th century.

Bas), is a missionary monk of English origin, sent to Friesland to convert the pagans there. Made bishop then archbishop by Pope Gregory II, he was killed, with others, in hatred of the Christian faith.
