"Important Scriban 18th Century, Library Desk With Mesh Doors, Louis XV, Bourgogne Region"
Exceptional library desk in walnut and oak (for the backs and sides) from the mid-18th century. This very rare piece of furniture comes from the Burgundy region. At the time, in this region, the influence of Alsace, the Netherlands and more rarely the Paris region was clearly felt in the furniture. The bookcases in particular are screened in the same way as the Parisian woodwork bookcases. Our library desk has extraordinary dimensions (height 2m70 for a length of 1m91). The lower part consists of two side boxes and a "secret" central box opening only thanks to a system hidden in the left box. Magnificent work of animated moldings on the doors, crosspieces decorated with shells, front legs ending in windings. The upper part opens with two mesh doors. The upper rails of the doors are very harmoniously scrolled. This part forming a bookcase allows exceptional storage; both in terms of depth and the weight that the shelves can support, which are also mounted on racks. The interior of the library is lacquered in red ocher tones, giving additional elegance and opulence to the whole. Presence of two drawers flush with the top of the furniture and both lockable with keys. Hollowed out niche in the center. Concerning the bookcase closures: a central hook is located in the lower part of the left door and has just been hooked under a shelf. Given the exceptional height of this piece of furniture, a very ingenious latch system attached to a metal wire fitted with a ring was installed to allow the door to be opened/closed by simply and lightly pulling on the ring, without make the slightest effort. This piece of furniture is in two parts, it is sold with its keys, all the locks work. The whole thing is really in superb condition. Traces of wear and use are obviously to be noted (particularly on the top) and usual restorations have been carried out over time (some jointing, grafting and small fillings). Superb patina for this very good quality regional piece of furniture whose rarity will be appreciated and recognized by fans of this type of furniture. Dimensions: length at the top: 191cm depth at the top: 91cm depth inside shelves 28cm height lower part: 76cm height upper part: 194cm total height: 270cm cornice length: 200cm cornice depth: 39cm
