"Shu Tanaka (1908-?) Old Japan"
An invitation to travel to the land of the rising sun with this subtle and soft touch from the painter Shu Tanaka, a Japanese artist who lived in Paris. The work in good condition is offered in a modern matte black frame, American box type which measures 60.5 cm by 71.5 cm and 54 cm by 65 cm for the canvas alone. It represents an abstract landscape in clear and light tones enhanced by a few touches of red. A work full of mystery and poetry inviting you to dream and travel. The work is signed lower right, titled “Ancien Japon” and annotated on the back. After his studies as a student at the École Normale Supérieure, he made numerous trips to Europe, including a long stay in Paris. He participated in group exhibitions in Japan and Paris, notably at the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in 1959. He showed his works in personal exhibitions at the Yoshii gallery in Tokyo and Paris. He creates landscapes typical of his country. The Autumn of ripe rice; Mulberry; Mont de Koma, in a spontaneous style, freed from academic rules, transcribing fleeting sensations. Favoring the effects of material and light, his work tends towards abstract landscapeism.
