"Mastery Of Marquetry"
Mastery of marquetry, decorations representing an allegorical scene: several young women accompanying horses harnessed to a chariot on a cloud, perhaps the allegory of destiny, this central motif is inlaid in a thuja wood veneer background where they are embedded fabulous animals, various lambrequins and foliage and putti, all forming the decoration of an oval table top, with reminders of marquetry and decorations in the belt of the top and at the beginning of the table legs. It is a piece of furniture of light construction, the subject is to show the dexterity of the cabinetmaker in the creation of the marquetry, not in the design of furniture. It is a work produced around 1930 - 1940, and probably a master's degree from the Boule School. Some very slight missing cedar on the top and a strip of light wood around the central motif.
